Traralgon Swimming Club congratulates their Australian Age Championship medallist and Victorian record holder, 14 year old Georgia Tsebelis on being nominated for and winning the Gippsland Sports Academy Tim Forsyth award for outstanding achievement. They would also like to congratulate 15 year old Australian Age Championships medallist Lily Collins on being nominated for the David Drane Encouragement Award and their Strength and Conditioning coach Sam Fenton on being nominated for the Phil Shelley award for his contribution to sport.

Georgia has had an outstanding year which culminated in making 5 finals at the Australian Age Championships in Adelaide earlier this year. Georgia won a bronze medal in the Girls 14 years 200m Individual Medley event and was also part of  Traralgon’s record breaking “Awesome foursome” team of Georgia, Maggie O’Keefe, Erin Roberts and Taylah DaRos who took out the silver medals in the Girls 14 years and under freestyle relay event.

At the Victorian State Championships Georgia took home 2 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze for her 11 events which was an amazing feat. In the Victorian Country Championships her tally was 7 gold and 3 silver, winning her the Rob Godfrey 13 years and under trophy for a record third year in a row. In the Gippsland Championships, Georgia won the most outstanding female swimmer for the second year in a row with her 9 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals at this event. Georgia currently holds 43 Gippsland, 7 Country Victoria and 2 Victorian records and was selected to represent Victoria at the States Teams Challenge.

Traralgon’s Head Coach, Brian Ford is full of praise for this young athlete saying “Georgia is a well rounded athlete who never misses any of her eight swim and three gym sessions each week, she is well respected by her peers and is an outstanding trainer and racer. Georgia has the capacity to back up event after event performing at the highest standard. She is a role model to her team mates in the Traralgon Swimming Club and a credit to swimming in Victoria. Georgia is an outstanding winner of the Tim Forsyth award and is someone who will go far in upper echelons in the sport of swimming”.

15 year old Lily Collins has improved enormously this year finishing off with an outstanding Australian Age Nationals in Adelaide making three finals and winning a silver medal in the Girls 15 years 100m Breaststroke event and a bronze medal in the Girls 15 years 200m Breaststroke event in Victorian Country Record times. Lily also achieved success in the Victorian State Championships winning 2 silver and 1 bronze medal. At the Victorian Country Championships held in Geelong, Lily won 4 gold and 3 silver medals. Her tally at the Gippsland Championships was 7 gold and 3 silver medals.

“Lily has the potential to go far in the sport as she continues to adapt to the rigors of hard training and racing. She is a worthy nominee for the David Drane Encouragement Award and someone that I am sure we will see on the bigger stage in future” according to Head Coach Brian Ford.

Traralgon Swimming Club’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sam Fenton also was a worthy nominee for the Phil Shelley Award for his contribution to sport according to Head Coach, Brian Ford. “Sam has been an integral part of the Traralgon Swimming Club program as well as the Gippsland Sports Academy program for the past eight years. His enthusiasm, energy and discipline he brings to both programs is outstanding and together with his vast and extensive knowledge provides each athlete with the tools they need to be strong, powerful and ultimately successful in their field of endeavour.
