TSEBELIS DOMINATES IN TRARALGON SWIM VICTORY Twelve year old Traralgon swimmer Georgia Tsebelis was the outstanding performer at the Victorian Country Short Course Championships held at Wangaratta. Traralgon sent a thirty strong swimming team away for the Championships and disciplined performances from all team members saw Traralgon as the most outstanding club at the meet, winning the prestigious Bob Carmichael Trophy on 958 points, some 50 points ahead of Warrnambool. Georgia won an amazing 6 Gold, and 2 Silver medals, breaking 1 Country and 6 Gippsland records. Her best swim was the 100 metre Backstroke where she broke past Gippsland Champion, Courtney Ford’s record from 1998 with a time of 1:08.47. Georgia will round out her current short course program by competing at the Victorian Championships in early September. She will then travel with the Gippsland Academy of Sport to a 5 day swim camp at Runaway Bay in Queensland. Team Captain Brayden Waltham was also a star performer winning 6 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal. Swimming 10 events over the two day meet. His hard racing attitude was most evident in the 200 Butterfly where he took on the feild in the first 100 and pushed himself to the edge, just hanging on in the last 10 metres for a fingernail win. Fifteen year old Elliot Shaw had an amazing meet winning Gold in the 100 Freestyle (55.48), 200 Freestyle (2:02.80), 100 Backstroke (1:02.60) and 100 Butterfly (1.00.84), a terrific achievement among some very tough 14/15 year old competition. Female Team Captain, 16 year old Alice Lieshout had a wonderful competition winning the 100 Backstroke (1:06.20) and 200 Backstroke (2:23.10) and picking up Silver in the 100 and 200 Freestyle events. Eleven year old Erin Roberts and 17 year old Jye Thompson were the other multiple winners with Erin winning 2 Silver and 1 Bronze and Jye 1 Gold and 1 Silver in their age group events. Other winners included Matt Norwood (1 Silver), Jordan Radosavljevic (1 Silver) and Maggie O’Keefe (1 Silver). Eight year old up and comer Alex Tsebelis, competing in the 11 years and under events, was exceptional. Not only did he qualify and compete in all five events, he broke Brenton Ford’s 14 year old Gippsland records in the 50 Backstroke (41.42) and 50 Freestyle (37.15).
All other team members competed strongly, achieving personal best times in their events. Team members were Jordan Arthur with two top ten finishes in 100 & 200 Freestyle, Hamish Bissett 3 PBs from 3 events, Caiden Gill three top ten finishes in 50 & 100 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke, Daniel Gill 5th in 100 Breaststroke and four PBs, Brayden Haney PB in 100 Breaststroke, Shae Haney PB in 100 Breaststroke, Bethany Kershaw PB in 100 Freestyle, Jacob Lampitt four PBs from four events, Nicole Moon 8th place in 100 Backstroke and five PBs from six swims, Thomas Morrison 7 PBs from 8 swims, Jessica Norwood five PBs from five swims, Bridie O’Keefe 3 PBs from 4 swims, Sam Roberts 9th place for 100 Backstroke and 4 PBs from four swims, Fabienne Schoutens five PBs from five swims, Sharna Smith two PBs from four swims, Stephanie Spehar five PBs from five swims, Zoe Trembath 5th place in 100 Breaststroke and five PBs from seven swims, Regan Webster three PBs from four swims, Tim Wilson 9th place in 100 IM and four PBs from four swims, Ashley Withell 7th place in 50 Backstroke and five PBs from six swims. The Traralgon team travelled to Wangaratta by coach and stayed together at Beechworth with Head Coach Brian Ford and Team Managers Debbie Waltham, Veronica Roberts, Petra Schoutens and Glen Withell. Will Morrison also assisted with coaching duties throughout the successful weekend. |
